£90.00
Set of five 19th century antique prints by Edwin Edwards, all depicting beautiful scenes of the historic Gloucester Docks and what it looked like back in the 1800's. Each print has a description underneath which are listed here for your information:
"View of the Port of Gloucester - inset on Causton's map of Gloucester, 1843"
"Gloucester Docks, 1867 from an original view by Edwin Edwards"
"Gloucester Docks, 10th June 1850 showing the old Gloucester and Cheltenham tram road opened in 1841"
"Boats on the river at Gloucester"
"View of sailing ships - Gloucester Docks"
Edwin Edwards was born in Framlingham, Suffolk in 1823 the son of a Norfolk squire. He trained as a lawyer and held the legal post of the King's Proctor and Examiner of the Courts of Civil Law and the High Court of Admirality courts until 1861, when at the age of 38 he retired from the profession and devoted himself to art.
Edwards was inspired to become an etcher by the French artist Henri Fantin-Latour, whom he first met in Paris in 1861.
These stunning prints would adorn any wall and create a real statement, especially if grouped together. These prints are very old and some of them do have visible marks/stains between the glass and the image, but this is due to age and does not detract from how lovely they are. One of the frames has suffered some damage to the top left side as shown in the photos, but if the vintage look is what you are after then this simply adds to the vibe!
